A great patch should survive many washes. With a few simple habits you can keep colors bright and edges intact for years.
General care for most patches
- Turn the garment inside out.
- Wash on a gentle cycle in cool water.
- Use mild detergent and skip bleach.
- Air-dry or use low heat.
- Do not iron directly on the patch — use a cloth barrier.

Embroidered and woven patches
These are the most washable. Follow the general steps above. If a thread comes loose, snip it carefully rather than pulling.
PVC patches
- Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
- Do not iron — heat can warp PVC.
- Remove Velcro®-backed patches before washing the garment when possible.
Leather patches
- Avoid soaking.
- Wipe gently with a damp cloth.
- Keep away from high heat.
- Condition genuine leather occasionally.
Iron-on patches
